Mobile Fab Lab coming soon to Saint Martin

Strengthen the capacity of residents and territories to innovate, as well as better anticipate and manage natural disasters. These are the missions of Tilt, an association founded in 2015 by Caroline Rattier and Carole Stromboni, respectively president and treasurer.

To participate in the reconstruction, Tilt is setting up a mobile Fab Lab, a first in Saint-Martin. A contraction of the English “Manufacturing Laboratory”, a Fab Lab is a place open to the public in which all kinds of tools, and in particular computer-controlled machine tools, are made available to them. The idea is to popularize this technology "and why not to arouse vocations" suggests the president.

With the ambition to promote social cohesion, Tilt should travel around the various districts of the island aboard its mobile Fab Lab from May. The association provides for three passages per district, each time with a different activity. First, Tilt and his van will go to meet the locals and help them repair it using power tools (drills, etc.). "The idea is to prepare with them the hurricane season, thanks to a series of good practices" advance the president. All while co-building a Survival Kit D, "D as resourceful or Do it yourself" explains Carole Stromboni, in which everyone can participate via an online collaborative platform. Finally, introduce residents to numerically controlled machines such as 3D printers, laser cutting etc.
