SAINT-BARTHÉLEMY / Crisis at the COM: majority shattered with the withdrawal of 6 advisors

0

At the start of the week, six elected officials announced their “withdrawal from the Union-Équilibre majority group” resulting from the merger of the lists led by Xavier Lédée, president of the Collectivité of Saint-Barthélemy, and Marie-Hélène Bernier, vice-president , during the territorial elections of March 2022.

Bettina Cointre, Maxime Desouches, Pascale Minarro-Baudoin, Jonas Brin, David Blanchard and Dimitri Lédée: the six territorial councilors loyal to Marie-Hélène Bernier have notified their decision to President Lédée who now finds himself in a minority within his own assembly. “This serious and carefully considered decision comes after a new and vain attempt to restore normal and peaceful functioning of the Community and to pursue a policy of union finally respecting the proposals for which we were elected” explain the six elected officials in the letter addressed to the territorial advisors of Saint-Barthélemy. Although three advisors have resigned from the commissions they chaired, Xavier Lédée nevertheless still has the support of his five former co-lists, namely Marie-Angèle Aubin, Mélissa Lake, Caroline Maurel, Olivier Gréaux and Fabrice Querrard. In their letter of April 5 to the attention of President Lédée, the six advisors who dissociated themselves from the president expressed their grievances including the change of his chief of staff, of the mission manager to the vice-president and to "define together and clearly the implementation of priority political orientations and strategies in each area. Xavier Lédée, present at the inauguration of the CCRAG last Tuesday in Saint-Martin, had until April 19 to “materialize his commitment”. In the absence of a response, the six advisors took action, shattering the territorial majority and creating a real major political crisis... 24 hours before the arrival of the delegate minister in charge of overseas territories, Marie Guévenoux, who this week made an official visit to the territory of Saint-Barthélemy. _VX
