During the first half of the year, the traffic recorded at the port of Pointe Blanche in Philipsburg shows an overall decrease of 18% compared to last year, both in terms of the number of movements and the number of containers handled.

Between January and June of this year, the total number of movements is 47811 against 58574 in 2019 over the same period, a decrease of 10763 movements, (- 19%). It should be noted that the traffic recorded in the first half of last year was a record: + 14% compared to 2017, + 23% compared to 2016, + 28% compared to 2015; even before Irma such a level had not been observed.

The results for the first half of 2020 can be explained in particular by a drop of almost a quarter of incoming movements in the second quarter, 3654 fewer movements recorded between April and June compared to the same period last year.

This is the lowest traffic recorded over the past five years in this quarter, or 10539 movements.

Over the first half of the year, the number of inbound movements was 23644. Although down 16% compared to 2018, it is up 3 and 5% compared to 2016 and 2015.

As for the number of outgoing movements, it is 24 (-167% compared to 7, - 2018% compared to 6, + 2017% compared to 4) against 2015 in 29912.
