On the occasion of the great carnival festivities which begin today on the Dutch side with the J'ouvert Jump Up and which will continue throughout the weekend of May 1st, the police forces of Sint Maarten want to remind everyone of the importance of safety and responsible behavior during these events.

Law enforcement recognizes that this is a time of celebration and fun, but it is essential that the public heed the warnings and guidelines of officers to ensure the festivities run smoothly and safely.

Meanwhile, the police would like to remind everyone that the "pay or stay" policy is still in effect throughout this carnival period. This implies that anyone arrested for breaking the law risks the possibility of paying a fine or going to jail.

"We urge everyone to follow the rules and behave responsibly," said the Sint Maarten police spokesperson. “We also ask everyone to cooperate with the police and other law enforcement officers who will be present on the ground every day. Their job is to make sure everyone is safe and the festivities run smoothly.

Police are asking all revelers taking part in the Jump-up to follow instructions and not hesitate to report any suspicious activity or behavior. _AF
