While meteorologists expect sudden and isolated showers in the coming days, the Ministry of Social Housing, Land Use Planning, Environment and Infrastructure of Sint Maarten deployed heavy equipment last Tuesday to open and widen the Great Bay Channel.
This is a preventive measure to maintain a safe water level in the ponds, avoiding flooding.
With contaminated pond water now flowing into Great Bay, swimmers are advised not to travel there for the next few days. _AF
