Sargassum forecast: medium risk for this week

0

In its pelagic sargassum grounding monitoring and forecasting bulletin for the Northern Islands communicated this Monday, September 5, 2022, Météo France places the risk of seaweed grounding at medium for Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy in the coming days. .

Tropical storm EARL did not allow good detections of Sargassum in the Caribbean zone, particularly to the east of the Northern Islands. On the cumulative 3-day satellite images, Sargassum remained numerous in the Atlantic basin. Although a large part has already passed through the Caribbean Sea, they are still highly concentrated between Martinique, Barbados and Saint-Vincent. Regarding the surroundings of our territory, a few sargassum rafts pass around the northern islands. Particular attention is brought to the fact that the EARL storm has temporarily diverted the surface currents and that it is possible that the sargassum present on the image of September 2 in the Caribbean Sea could run aground on the coasts usually protected. Other new groundings remain possible in the days to come. For the trend for the next two weeks, groundings are very likely in the West Indies. _VX
