JUSTICE: The 2 posts of deputy prosecutors now filled!

0

After two chaotic years, the prosecution recovers a so-called normal organization with the arrival of a second deputy prosecutor in the person of Yann Burnichon.

In 2016 and after the creation of a detached chamber in Saint-Martin, a second post of deputy prosecutor was created. A great step forward for justice in Saint-Martin, which until then depended heavily on the human resources of the Basse-Terre court.

For four years, the detached prosecutor's office in Saint-Martin will operate with two full-time deputy prosecutors. An unprecedented and innovative situation, which testified to the State's desire to increase its resources locally.

In mid-2020, one of the deputy prosecutors was transferred but no candidate was named (or found) to succeed him. The position is temporarily occupied by a substitute for the Basse-Terre prosecutor's office. The latter was supposed to stay for three months, in the end he stayed for a year.

Mid 2021, the second deputy prosecutor is also leaving. As well as the substitute. Another substitute for the Basse-Terre prosecution is seconded to Saint-Martin. He will practice alone until the appointment on December 15, 2021 of Christelle Bellet as deputy prosecutor. As the second position is still vacant, the deputy prosecutor still remains in Saint-Martin.

The Chancellery maintains its second notice of candidacy for Saint-Martin to which Yann Burnichon responds. Then substitute at the Nîmes Court of Appeal, Yann Burnichon is interested in the post in Saint-Martin. He applied and was appointed on April 15.  The detached prosecutor's office in Saint-Martin can once again operate under the conditions under which it was created in 2016.

The new deputy prosecutor took office on June 1. He says he was attracted by the "singularities" of the territory, namely its insular side and the division of the island between two countries. The magistrate of the seat wished to carry out an inventory and meet the local actors to better understand the territory. Element that he was able to note, is the "seriousness" of the facts committed, the violence and the intensity with which it is committed.

With his colleague, he will work to apply the criminal policy defined by the prosecutor in Basse Terre. The four priorities being the fight against road insecurity, armed robbery, vehicle theft and domestic violence. (soualigapost.com)
