A 27-year-old young man was summoned to the Saint-Martin criminal court for immediate appearance for refusing to comply with a stop order and driving without a driver's license in an uninsured vehicle.

AA was out with his partner and friends at the Dutch side casino. His partner, the designated driver of the evening and owner of the vehicle, had been drinking. Not wanting to risk letting her drive, he decides to do so. Arrived at Howell Center, AA sees the gendarmes at the Agrément roundabout. Panicked since he does not have a driver's license, and having also consumed alcohol, he turns around and flees. The gendarmes undertake to search for him and start a chase. The accused endangers the lives of others by grazing pedestrians, enters the Low Town street in a forbidden direction, bursts a tire at the Bellevue roundabout before finishing his race, at 140 km / h on the odometer , at Simpson Bay his starting point, where he was eventually arrested.

In his defense, AA explains that he was afraid when the gendarmes approached: "I felt the prison coming and I don't want to go back there", he explains. Indeed, it turns out that the accused has a long history of incarceration and is currently on parole for 6 months, after having served 18 months in prison in Basse Terre.

The court sentenced AA to eight months in prison and a fine of 300 euros.
