SINT MAARTEN: 12 months in prison, half of which is conditional on Theo Heyliger

The Sint Maarten prosecutor requested a sentence of twelve months in prison, including six suspended sentences against Theo Heyliger in the Catfisch case. He is accused of attempted active corruption.

In 2012 and 2013, he allegedly offered bribes to Romain Laville, a member of Parliament at the time so that he resigned and thus bring down the majority. 350 dollars as well as a plot of land and a place in the new Parliament had been promised so that Laville resigned. The two men are said to have met four times.

Several other exchanges, notably by SMS, took place.

But Laville had complained because there had been an attempt to bribe him, which had triggered the investigation.

Another individual is involved in this case, JMS. Against him, the prosecution of Sint Maarten asked for a sentence of 120 hours of community service work, half of which was suspended. (soualigapost.com)
