During her first official visit to the territory of Saint-Martin, Marie Guévenoux, Minister Delegate in charge of Overseas Territories, visited the construction site from the college 900 of Savane to see the progress of the work.
Accompanied by Prefect Vincent Berton, representatives of institutions and local elected officials, Minister Guévenoux first attended a presentation of the project made by Christian Climent-Pons, responsible for monitoring the reconstruction of the education system, and the teams responsible for the construction of the digital college 900. Knowing that 70% of the region's children never go on vacation, the project integrates spaces and infrastructures which will be developed by the City Policy so that the youth of Saint-Martin can benefit from them. . College 900 will obviously meet the obligations provided for by the Education Code while offering a caring school environment which allows children to flourish, develop their skills and plan for the future. Initially budgeted at €21M in January 2020, the construction of middle school 900 will ultimately cost €34M (€15M Ministry of National Education, €3M Ministry of Overseas, €7M Ministry of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion, €3,018M European Regional Development Fund and €5,982M Community of Saint-Martin). This increase is explained by the construction of a gymnasium (€3,8M), the environmental transition (€3,018M), the raising of the water table by one meter (€4,37M) and the related price revision in the international context (€1,812M). With this aim of delivering a multimedia college with a bioclimatic and dynamically modern design, the 150 teachers involved in the school will be included in the process next May as part of a consultation meeting. The work is progressing according to the established schedule, for delivery at the start of the 2025 school year. All of the innovative features, detailed in our previous editions, were presented to the delegate minister, impatient to discover the site. Curious, Marie Guévenoux did not fail to ask questions during the visit and then spoke to the press: “This construction is extremely important. Following the Irma disaster, the school environment was affected and we find ourselves with thousands of children who must find teaching conditions that are significantly better than those they experience today. (…) From this trauma is, basically, born an opportunity thanks to work, we will find ourselves with 1500 students (college 900 in Savane and college 600 in Quartier d'Orléans editor's note) who will have high quality and almost double the anticyclonic refuge places.” At the end of this visit, the minister boarded the coast guard boat towards Saint-Barthélemy, she reached Paris last Thursday. _VX
