On May 16, 2019, the border police (PAF) control the trade of MC in Quartier d'Orléans. In the mini-snack bar, the police observed three people working: MC, his wife and father. The wife, a native of China, does not have a residence permit authorizing her to work in France and is not declared; as for the father who is Dutch, it is not declared. MC, who has dual nationality (Chinese and Dutch) is prosecuted for having employed a foreign person without title and for concealed work. He appeared Thursday morning before the Saint-Martin local court.

MC explained to the court that his wife "takes care of their two grandchildren and when she has nothing to do, she comes to find him at the convenience store" where she can "lend him a hand".

Concerning the presence of her father, MC justified it by "the Chinese attitude". "I am his only son, he needs to be with me, to see what I do. He also helps out in the kitchen, ”he said. He confirmed giving her 1 euros each month.

After deliberation, the court acquitted MC of the facts of the employment of a foreign person without authorization because, during his hearing, his wife was heard without an interpreter when she does not speak French, which is contrary to the law. On the other hand, the court condemned MC for concealed work to a fine of 2 euros, half of which was suspended.

Other representatives of Chinese convenience stores were summoned on Thursday but obtained a dismissal because they asked for a lawyer to prepare their defense.
