The annual championship of the Caribbean islands, members of the ECGA (East Caribbean Association) took place this weekend on the splendid “Cuisinart” golf course in Anguilla.

The teams in attendance this year were those from St. Lucia, Antigua, St-Kitts, St-Croix, St-Maarten and Anguilla. The selection of Guadeloupe and Martinique had not made the trip this year.

For 2 days the best amateur players of these islands crossed swords to defend their colors and try to achieve their best scores. The Anguilla golf course was well prepared for this event and the players were able to hit their balls on magnificent “fairways” (“the alley” for our Quebec friends) and roll them on the “greens”. (“Le vert” in Montreal) carpet style, rare in the region.

At the end of the weekend, the Sint-Maarten team (SMGA) won individually with Manon Tortelier in the Ladies category (gross) and Jan P. Hotland cat. Men (net), and finished by team in 2nd place in Women (net) and Men (net). The awards ceremony took place at the “Reef”, the magnificent extension of the Cuisinart hotel, in an atmosphere of celebration and camaraderie. The teams took the opportunity to thank the staff of Cuisinart and Scott Delong for this perfect organization.

Next golf event: on December 8, the famous SMGA Christmas scramble with Santa Claus costume contest and cart decorations. And finally on December 15 the Cariburo Scramble which brought together nearly 60 participants last year. More info on golf in Saint-Martin: golftamarins@gmail.com.
