The Sint Maarten Yacht Club (SMYC) is organizing the 5th edition of the Domino's Dinghy Interschool Sailing Championship, which will take place on Saturday January 15th.
This test is open to all schools in Sint Maarten and Saint-Martin. The SMYC informs that no registration fees or additional costs will be requested at the time of entries, thanks to the sponsorship of Domino's Pizza.
"In this event, young sea enthusiasts team up with all the sailors from their school, and compete between the various schools involved", specifies Saskia Revelman, responsible for events at the Sint Maarten Yacht Club, who is expecting a dozen of schools.
The race is divided into four categories, the Optimist, Laser, RS Zest and RS Quest classes.
The objective of this championship is to win the general trophy for the best school. Individual trophies will also be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in each category.
The avowed aim of the event is to promote the sport of sailing throughout the island within schools, and to recognize the pupils who compete in this sport.
Thanks to the promotion of this 5th annual interschool championship, the SMYC wishes to initiate and encourage young pupils from both parts of the island to practice sailing sports.
