Gendarmerie: Major Franck Forestier, new boss of the motorized brigade

The month of August is synonymous with change of assignment for many soldiers of the gendarmerie. Thus, on August 1, Major Franck Forestier took command of the motorized brigade (BMO) of the Northern Islands. Coming from Charente, where he had been practicing for the past few years, the major had 34 years of gendarmerie, including 30 in motorcycling.

"Road safety is my domain," says the major, especially since he was, among other things, an instructor at the National Center for Road Safety Training in Fontainebleau, a place where all bikers of the gendarmerie are trained. . Road safety being an area close to his heart, Major Forestier noted that in Saint-Martin "there is work to be done". BMO North Islands official deplores 8 deaths since the start of the year, "The trend has to reverse, because it's too much for a population like Saint -Martin ".

The main objective of the bikers of the gendarmerie will relate to addictive behavior, "driving under alcohol and narcotics, which are one of the main causes of accidents".

Wearing safety gear, such as wearing a helmet and gloves for two-wheelers, or wearing a seatbelt for car occupants, will be more visible than ever in BMO. To carry out the checks, motorbike trips are now more frequent. In addition, within a few months, the motorized brigade will receive three new new generation Yamaha motorcycles, more powerful and more suitable, says the major.

The latter recognizes the difficulties in stopping the driver of a two-wheeler, "because if he does not want to stop, he will put himself in danger, but also endanger the lives of other people. Especially since it is not necessarily to verbalize. Sometimes it is enough to speak, we can give a verbal warning, once or twice. Then everything to its limits… ”. Controls will be intensified and actions will be carried out mainly on staggered schedules and no longer during working hours. "We have to be seen, and then unfortunately, be forced to crack down", and for that the bikers are also equipped with two portable devices to control the speed. Prevention is also a priority and BMO bikers  will continue to travel in schools, but also in companies to inform employees who travel both with their own vehicle and with those of the company. _RM
