Three individuals - two minors and one adult - were brought before the examining magistrate in Basse-Terre yesterday: they are suspected of being involved in eleven facts including four thefts with the use of a weapon committed between January 31 and on February 22 in French, announced the prosecutor Xavier Sicot during a press conference this Thursday at the beginning of the afternoon. They had been arrested and taken into police custody Tuesday and Wednesday by the gendarmes of the Marigot brigade and the research section in charge of the investigation.

A judicial investigation has been opened and will have to specify the role of each individual as well as a possible participation in other acts. According to the information shared by the police of Sint Maarten, however, they are not involved in partly Dutch cases.

The adult and the minor over the age of sixteen will be placed in pre-trial detention in the coming hours, the prosecutor said. As for the third, a minor under the age of sixteen, he “will be removed from Saint-Martin” and placed in a specialized center in Guadeloupe.

The adult, a 32-year-old man, was due to appear this morning in court in  proximity to Saint-Martin for acts of concealment of property resulting from a repeated theft, theft and use of narcotics committed on December 9 and 10. Being in police custody, he could not be present at the hearing and the prosecution requested the postponement of his trial.

The three individuals are notably accused of having robbed a hotel and a restaurant in Nettle Bay and attacked two individuals with a weapon during the month of February. There is no family relationship between the three men, "they come from the same neighborhood", said Commander Basso. They were all three born in Saint-Martin.

For prosecutor Sicot, these three arrests represent "a nice catch". He ensures that the police remain mobilized in the fight against armed robberies. The gendarmes ask the victims - even if the damage is low - to systematically file a complaint because "they can give details which can advance the investigations". (soualigapost.com)
