Wednesday 6 June a little after midnight, following an attempted robbery during which shots were fired, the police and rescue workers from Sint Maarten were sent to the Jump-Up casino located in Emmaplein (Philipsburg).

On the spot, investigators learn that four armed men dressed in black broke into the casino threatening everyone, including the employees, to be given money.

Then they start firing shots. A policeman who is not on duty and is in the casino retaliates with his weapon and touches one of the robbers. The other three flee, leaving behind their wounded accomplice.

Two employees were injured in the shootout. They are taken care of by the emergency services and transported to the Sint Maarten hospital.

Despite the efforts of the paramedics, the robber succumbs to his injuries and his death is pronounced on the spot. His identity has not yet been revealed.

Sint Maarten police inform that a security perimeter was immediately established around the scene. Investigators took several testimonies while the forensic science collected the evidence.
