LEGISLATIVE ELECTIONS: A first round that mobilized little, especially in Saint-Barth

0

Saturday, June 11, the Saint-Martinois and the Saint-Barths were called for the third time since the transition to the Collectivity of the two islands, to go to the polls to elect the person who will represent them in the National Assembly. Turnout has never been very high in the first round.

The highest was in 2012 when Saint-Martinois and Saint-Barths had to elect their deputy for the first time. In the first round, 30% of voters had voted (31,1% in Saint-Martin and 26,1% in Saint-Barth). In 2017, overall turnout in the constituency plummeted six points to 24% due to a 7,4 point drop in turnout in Saint-Martin (23,7%).

This year, the participation is still decreasing, but this time due to the Saint-Barths who mobilized much less (18,2% against 25,1% in 2017).

The participation rate of Saint-Martinois is almost identical even if slightly down (22% against 23,7%).

In terms of voters, 24 people were invited to vote. On Saturday, 555 people voted against 5218 in 6099 and 2017 ten years ago in the constituency. For the first time, less than 6835 people came to Saint-Barth, that is to say less than for the last European elections in 1000.

In Saint-Martin, 4249 people voted, ie 2,3 times less than in the first round of the territorial elections last March.
