Annual review: Louis Mussington has "no regrets"

Louis Mussintgon was elected president of the Collectivity on April 3, 2022. After a year in power, the politician, accompanied by his elected officials, held a press conference last Friday to take stock of the work accomplished.

In the introduction, the president of the Collectivité made a point of recalling this significant fact which has not ceased to follow him since he took power: on a visit to the Basse-Terre prison, Louis Mussington said he was deeply shocked and traumatized to see the young Saint-Martin residents locked up, going around in circles, with no prospect for the future.
During this difficult moment, exchanges took place between the latter and certain detainees: "it's not the end of your life, when you go out, come see me". Recently, while driving through the streets of Sandy Ground, Louis Mussington was approached by a young man on a scooter, a former prisoner and present in Basse-Terre the day of the president's visit, who reminded him of his outstretched hand. The challenge for the politician is to offer a future to all these young people, to supervise the most discouraged and to support those who remain hopeful: "the new term of office has decided to do otherwise". Louis Mussington then thanked and congratulated his "colleagues and the determined administration which understood its mission to support political decision-makers in their choices, I am proud of this great team that I am responsible for leading". With a continuous positive reaction from public opinion since the beginning of his mandate, Louis Mussington underlined the three pillars which motivate his territorial policy: economic growth, social equity and protection of the environment, "a strong policy that we carry in our soul ". In terms of human resources, the president is delighted to have provided the Collectivity with new skills which it has been lacking for 15 years: "we have carried out a reorganization of the administration and worked on the renewal of the careers of the agents of the Collectivity by allowing everyone to improve their skills through training. It is also time to signal the end of recess by putting an end to the abuse of certain agents who receive a salary without performing the work requested. On the education side, the emphasis was placed on the development of higher education "in order to better prepare our young people and help families in financial difficulty", hence the future partnership with the University of the West Indies without forgetting the development of health training. The cooperation with Sint Maarten is an important point for Louis Mussington, including two major files currently in progress: the reflection on the joint treatment of waste as well as the production and distribution of drinking water, which is struggling to materialize because of European standards judged as insane obstacles by the president of the Collectivity. Details of the interventions of elected officials in our next edition. _Vx
