World Clean Up Day: 2 tonnes of waste evacuated

0

On September 16, as part of World Clean Up Day, the Clean Saint-Martin association organized a major cleaning operation in the Orient Bay and Mont Vernon sector.

The numerous volunteers tackled the land located between the former Bombom Jam and the Mont Vernon Hotel and the least we can say is that they did not skimp on their efforts. Container door, fake lawn, tire, pieces of wood, plastic bottles and containers, scrap metal: in total, no less than two tons of waste were collected and evacuated into two skips. Saint-Martin once again rose to the challenge brilliantly. Young and old sweated during this morning of cleaning operation from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., organized exceptionally on Saturday September 16 to fit in with the World Clean Up Day calendar. For once, the association usually launches its monthly actions on Sunday mornings.

World Clean Up Day is a global operation launched by the Let's do it foundation with the aim of fighting pollution through citizen clean-ups. The Let’s do it! World, an accredited member of the United Nations Environment Program, was established in 2008 in Estonia. In 2016, it is present in 113 countries, including 45 national and 68 regional branches. World Clean Up Day takes place every third Saturday in September and the Clean Saint-Martin association, which organizes operations of this type every month in the region, intended to contribute fully to it. At the end of the event, the volunteers gathered around refreshments and delicious snacks to regain their strength. After the effort, comfort! Sweets offered by the association as a thank you. Bravo to the volunteers who actively participate in keeping the area clean. _VX
