The 18 young Saint-Martin athletes won the first edition of the Real Madrid Foundation championship in Spain. The trip of 10 of them was sponsored by the Tourist Office, which financed their plane tickets.
They walked the tarmac at Juliana airport with stars in their eyes. The 18 players from the two U14A and U14B teams, accompanied by their coaches Jean-Marc Hon and Jeanandray Franck, as well as parents and members of the St Louis Stars association, were welcomed on April 15 by a delegation from the Office of Tourism led by President Valérie Damaseau, elected officials from the Collectivity including President Louis Mussington, representatives of the Saint-Martin Football League and Alex Baly, President of the YIELD association at the initiative of this project. The day before, the young footballers particularly distinguished themselves by winning the final of the first tournament sponsored by the Real Madrid Foundation. Selected last year when a Real Madrid delegation traveled to the island, they can be proud to have an international title on their list which now bears the colors of Saint-Martin.
A triumphal welcome was therefore reserved for them at a cocktail party organized by the Collectivity at the Vanterpool stadium and each of the players was given a bouquet of flowers. The Tourist Office had made its contribution to this sporting trip, which took place from April 7 to 15, by financing 10 plane tickets for the young champions. This dossier was presented by the YIELD association, which works to promote the success of promising athletes, as well as by the parents' committee.
"It is an important mobilization for the development of sports tourism and the international influence of our territory" specifies the president Valérie Damaseau, who wishes to recall the commitment of the Tourist Office on
solidarity actions promoting the notoriety of Saint-Martin and thank the members of the YIELD association for this initiative.
