As part of the national strategy for the prevention and fight against poverty, the State finances breakfasts for schools located in priority territories. A dedicated allocation is thus allocated by the State to these territories to encourage and support the organization of school breakfasts.

The goal is to allow children not to start the day hungry, to stay focused throughout the morning and thus learn in the best conditions. This measure contributes to the reduction of inequalities, from an early age. The system concerns all schools in the priority education network (REP and REP +), city policy districts and isolated rural areas, 153 students benefited in 500 in France.

This year the device will concern Saint-Martin; the vice-rector, the president of the COM, the Caisse Territoriale des Oeuvres Scolaires (CTOS), the regional body for education and health promotion Guadeloupe (IREPS) having yesterday signed an agreement to this effect. The operation takes place from February 22, 2021 to June 25, 2021, on 4 schools in REP + (Orleans district) and 2 schools in REP (Sandy Ground). Each week, 2 students will have a daily breakfast.

The Academy of Guadeloupe commits to 600 meals to be served at 2,00 euros per day over 61 days for a total of 73 euros. The Collectivité de Saint-Martin will supplement up to € 200 on each meal served for cycle 0,93 students and € 1 on each meal served for cycle 1 and 2 students.

The students were identified following a survey of 108 elementary school students in the CE1, CE2, CM1 and CM2 classes of REP / REP +.

The children were questioned on their eating habits, in particular on the intake of the first meal of the day. The finding was as follows: nearly 1 in 2 students did not eat breakfast regularly and more than 12% arrived hungry every morning.
