Man rescued from drowning by bathers in Galleon

The firefighters rescued a swimmer rescued from drowning this Sunday June 28 around 13:30 p.m. by several witnesses who were on Galion beach.

The victim is a 25-year-old West Indian, partly Dutch, who had come to bathe with his family on Galion Beach.

The water is not very deep there but his mother noticed that he was struggling in the water and called for help.

He was near a small boat which was anchored near the beach, one of the many people who witnessed the incident said. His friends helped him get him out of the water and one of them tried to revive him by giving him a cardiopulmonary massage while waiting for the firefighters who had been alerted to arrive. He probably saved her life.

The firefighters arrived on site provided first aid and continued resuscitation before taking him to the Marigot hospital for examination. A little later, he was taken to St Maarten Hospital for treatment.

We do not know the causes of this discomfort which could have led to drowning. Perhaps an excessive breakfast which could have resulted in choking or possibly possible hydrocution.
