An anti Sargassum collective of local residents was created in St-Martin

This year, the residents of the coasts impacted by the stranding of Sargassum algae have decided to take action by creating a collective called “Saint-Martin Collectif Anti Sargassum”. One of the objectives is to "find the best solutions to effectively remedy this problem which has become recurrent on our island" and above all to put pressure on the authorities so that the collection of algae is carried out frequently, which is not this year not yet the case.

“It is a health and economic issue, we must react via this collective and put pressure on the level of the COM and the prefecture while involving the ARS Guadeloupe, which unfortunately clear each other. This irresponsibility is blatant and it is important that we organize this collective, ”declares the collective on its Facebook page.

The collective contacted the Collectivity to discuss the problem and understand the causes of the problem. “A public market is in effect for the collection of Sargassum. The Collectivity has effectively mandated the two companies under contract since March. Due to various difficulties and in particular payments, they have so far refused to intervene despite multiple reminders, ”replied the COM.

And to specify that a requisition procedure was in progress.

Bruno Lebre, who initiated the creation of the collective, invites all those concerned to join via the Facebook page. To date, about twenty people have already registered. (soualigapost.com)
