In February 2017, regional telluric activity remained stable, according to the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Guadeloupe (OVSG). 138 earthquakes of maximum magnitude 5,8 on the Richter scale have been recorded within a radius of 450 km around Guadeloupe. Regarding the Northern Islands, three earthquakes were felt: the largest occurred on February 5 with a magnitude of 4, 13 km from Saint-Martin.

In addition, the Paris Institute of Physics of the Globe (IPGP) has announced the launch of the 2017 Subsaintes campaign, from April 2 to 21. Scientists will study “the network of faults that cut the ocean floor and the numerous underwater volcanoes, between the Saintes archipelago of Guadeloupe and the island of Dominica”, aboard an oceanographic vessel. _EH
