Territorial Council: how is the distribution of seats made

0

Seats are allocated according to the electoral code by the general census commission of votes which is formed during territorial elections. Eight of the 8 seats in the Territorial Council are automatically assigned to the list that won the elections. The other 23 are calculated according to a precise calculation, the electoral quotient.

This quotient is determined by dividing the number of votes cast (8855) by the number of seats to be filled in the territorial council (15). It is 590,33.

Then each list is allocated as many seats as the number of votes in the list contains the electoral quotient.

For Team Gibbs, the calculation is as follows: 5 / 695 = 590,33. Or 9,6 additional seats.

The majority will count by 18 seats, one more than the outgoing one. These are the first 18 names on the Team Gibbs 2017 list.

The opposition will consist of 5 seats divided into the Alliance and On the march towards progress. The calculation for the Alliance is as follows: 2138 / 590,33 = 3,6. Or 4 seats. These are the first 4 names on the list. At this stage of the calculation, only one seat is missing. It is attributed to the list arriving in third position, that is En Marche vers le Progres. The candidate will be Alain Richardson. The establishment of the Territorial Council will take place Sunday April 2. The members will have to elect their president.
