Bernadette Davis, 2nd Vice-President in charge of the Living Environment, represented the Collectivity of Saint-Martin on Tuesday, July 12, during the Round Table organized by the Senate on waste management in the Overseas Territories.

In her speech, Bernadette Davis first recalled the context in which our territory has been evolving since Hurricane Irma in 2017, with a significant increase in waste production.

“Saint-Martin must today respond to increasingly important challenges and set up infrastructures that are part of a dynamic of modernity and sustainability”.

Bernadette Davis notably mentioned the need for Saint-Martin to be supported through "a real catch-up plan", resulting in the implementation of new tools for the treatment of waste but also a reflection on the transformation of these. as a source of energy.

The Collectivity of Saint-Martin will make every effort to improve treatment and recycling with its partners.

The redeployment of selective waste sorting, with 220 new voluntary drop-off terminals (glass and plastic), will be effective by the end of this year. The terminals are currently being manufactured and will be delivered by the end of the year.

“Waste management is a major issue for Saint-Martin and we are working on it. It is also a sector that generates employment and new sectors with high added value. These sectors represent a real opportunity for our young people who can propose innovative projects and position themselves for qualified jobs,” concluded Bernadette Davis.
