SXM E-sport Festival: Prize giving for the first edition

0

The day after the first e-sport competition organized at the Vanterpool stadium, which brought together 110 video game enthusiasts, the SXM E-sport festival awards ceremony took place at 978 Sanctorum in Rambaud this Sunday. Back to this double event.

For those new to the process, e-sport defines the sporting practice of competitive video games, which are broadcast and played on the Internet, individually or in teams, whether on a computer or a video game console. Since 2016,  the practice of video games in competition and the status of professional player are recognized by French law. The sporting discipline is gaining ground in our territory and the president of the Anis Saint-Martin association, Jerry Desbonnes, has decided to create a Saint-Martin delegation, the Soualiga Warriors. The latter are at the heart of the organization of the first festival dedicated to competitive video games, the SXM E-sport Festival. In order to train to prepare for the various regional and international championships such as the recent "Gigagames Canoc E-sport Series" competition in Guadeloupe where the Soualiga Warriors participated for the first time, the organizers of the e-sport festival wanted to to bring together amateur and professional players by highlighting local talent and demonstrating that playing video games can be done in a responsible and healthy way. This Saturday, July 16 from 9 a.m. to 19 p.m., more than a hundred participants competed on seven video games: Mortal Kombat 11, Tekken 7, Smash Bros, Fifa 2022, NBA 2K, Call Of Duty and Street Fighter V. Twenty- and-one winners emerged from the competition, celebrated at the awards ceremony held last Sunday at 978 Sanctorum. The first winners won a check for €200 and a telephone offered by Dauphin Telecom. The various prizes were awarded by several personalities such as Marc Fabre, local manager of the Regional Academic Delegation for Youth, Engagement and Sports (DRAJES) representing the Prefecture, Annick Petrus, Senator of Saint-Martin, and Jean Arnell , co-founder of Computech, one of the main partners of the SXM e-sport festival, as is Anis Saint Martin, who supports Saint-Martin citizens in the appropriation of digital tools.
