Tourism 2019, the year of optimism and a smile!

The year 2018 was the year of questioning, reconstruction, and the rebirth of our territory. A year was necessary to ensure the transformation and the re-enchantment of Saint-Martin.

This past year has also been one of collaboration and cooperation. A tremendous common momentum has enabled two nations, to various organizations, to work together, to speak with one and the same voice, in order to advance and reborn our beautiful island of Saint-Martin.

For a year now, no actor has spared his pain, each acting within his field of competence and for the recovery of our economy.

Demonstrating that a dramatic event, totally undergone, can become a source of inspiration, progress and success, that the challenge taken up by each, becomes a collective victory and enrichment.

Before turning the page on the disaster that Irma has been and which will remain forever in our history, the acting director, Aïda Weinum, the whole team as well as myself, president of the tourist office, want to make a very strong tribute to the actions implemented by all stakeholders in the economy, tourism and by the local population.

Ready for tourism recovery!

In this new year 2019, which opens before us, the Tourist Office of Saint-Martin wishes you to make the most of all the energy invested in the reconstruction and to assist in the revival of tourism and the return of the economic dynamism of our territory.

For this, the Tourist Office organizes its commercial strategy around four major markets, which are the North American market, the regional market, the Latin American market and the French, European market. The articulation of these different markets must be around four main travel themes, for which Saint Martin has a competitive advantage.

Thus, we highlight St-Martin as a “destination wedding”, St Martin as the jewel of Caribbean gastronomy, St Martin as a base

major of yachting and St Martin as a paradise for tourists who appreciate the high end.

As part of our memorandum of understanding with our Dutch counterparts, we will continue to work together to ensure the commercial promotion of the island. Participation in various trade fairs, professional or general public, the relationship with the various players in tourism which are travel agencies, tour operators and the press is done by pooling resources, equipment and staff. Similarly, for communication operations, such as, specific launch evenings, the creation of promotional and marketing materials and tools.

The Tourist Office also undertakes to achieve communication and a visual identity specific to the French side, through digital campaign actions, the purchase of specific advertising space or the use of video media.

Indeed, pooling does not mean ignoring territorial particularities.

Thus, the actions should make it possible to provide even more support to associations and promoters of tourism-related projects that meet the region's need for animation. They should strengthen the territorial planning and reconstruction tourism development plan for the period 2017-2027.

May 2019 be the year of optimism and a smile for all those who are dear to you and for our beautiful island of Saint-Martin, which deserves to regain its place on the world tourist scene.

Best wishes 2019 to all, we have so much to offer!
