Cruises: the ship Le Ponant calling at Saint-Martin

0

The Ponant, luxury cruising sailboat, arrived Thursday December 6 at 6 am from Fort de France (with several stops including Saint-Barthélemy) and landed 51 passengers at the port of Galisbay mainly originating in North America. The three masts, occasionally chartered by an American tour operator, left at the end of the day for a ten-day cruise in the Caribbean. He will stop over in the British Virgin Islands and then in the Dominican Republic before reaching Cuba, his final destination, where he will stay all winter. 55 passengers will occupy a large part of the 32 cabins at its disposal.

If this is the first and only time this year that Galisbay has hosted Le Ponant, other ships stop there regularly. This is the case with the Crystal Esprit, which takes on board up to 62 passengers each Sunday. "In 2017 we lost almost all the planned stops following Irma, but 2018-2019 promises to be under very good auspices because a good number of boats are returning" comments Albéric Ellis the director of the port.

To welcome these cruise passengers in good conditions, it was necessary to make specific arrangements. The port is equipped with a marquee in which passport, security and supply checks are carried out. "We have also delimited a restricted access area on the quay which can only be accessed with specific authorization" explains the port director.

To be a base port, i.e. a place of embarkation, the port of Gaslibay already had a set of elements: drinking water, petroleum products (GEDC) and waste recovery with a service provider (skips are available ships then their content is deposited at the ecosite).
