Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy were placed on orange alert yesterday during the day by the Prefecture of the Northern Islands, due to the passage of tropical storm Isaac.

"Even if the phenomenon should be of small scale, it is advisable to maintain the greatest vigilance because of the presence of numerous debris and of a building still impacted", specifies the Prefecture in its press release.

On the side of the latest forecasts issued by Météo France, ISAAC continues to move westwards at the stage of a strong tropical storm. The most probable trajectory is passing its center at the level of Dominica this Thursday morning. The Northern Islands should therefore remain on the sidelines of the phenomenon without strong storm force winds. Despite everything, significant showers, sometimes heavy, will occur on our islands, accompanied by strong gusts.

If the first manifestations of rain appeared yesterday morning, its arrival is scheduled for today on our shores, with the height of the phenomenon in the middle of the day.

On the precipitation side, values between 60 and 90 mm are expected over the duration of the episode. Average winds should be between 40 and 50 km / h / h Thursday during the day with gusts of the order of 80 to 100 km / h in showers. These same showers will persist until Friday.

The schools will therefore be closed in part French and Dutch, as well as in Saint-Barthélemy this Thursday, September 13 as a precautionary measure. The rest of administrative and economic life can continue, underlines the Prefecture. _AF
