SHOW: "The Stupefying History of Rock", playful and nostalgic music lesson

0

François Bry and Christophe Margalejo, the two actor-musicians, rocked the stage of the Théâtre de la Chapelle last Saturday by retracing and interpreting the standards of the rock scene.

The concert hall was full and the opposite would have been surprising. Music lovers were quick to attend this show, the educational writing of which is peppered with subtle puns and subtle jokes. The Breathtaking History of Rock opens with a sober stage with a simple guitar amp and a white screen. For an hour and a half, François Bry takes us on a melodious journey recounting the milestones and the emergence of currents which are now famous for the fourth art of music. It all began with the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus and the birth of the blues, invented and played by slaves who sing their humor, their pain but also love, because in music, everything is often a question of love. From the blues and merged with the waltz, the polka or even the military march, jazz will be born, a hybrid style that will evolve over the years and the elites. After the introduction of boogie woogie, rhythm'n'blues and country, it is in fact the mixture of these three styles that transports us to the heart of what the audience of the Théâtre de la Chapelle is impatiently waiting for: rock . Rock then becomes a culture, a philosophy of life. Throughout the show, the character of François Bry instructs that of Christophe Margalejo known as "the novice" who writes a thesis on the influence of the ABBA group on the compositions of the Sex Pistols, a proven fact since ABBA has inspired many other groups. musicals like Motörhead, U2 and Nirvana. All the big names are mentioned and their photos projected onto the white screen. There are so many of them that it would be impossible to name them all, but the Breathtaking History of Rock flies over the most famous.

Each legend is entitled to his minute of live music brilliantly interpreted by the two musicians. Only downside, no woman was included in the list, yet many of them have handled the guitar as well as their male counterparts, starting with Janis Joplin. If this rock show teaches us a lot about the history of this musical movement which changed the game in the industry, it also reminds us that it is with old electric guitars that we make the best riffs. _VX
