Thirty people gathered on Wednesday, May 1, around 7 a.m. in the Galisbay car park in response to the union call UNI.T978 and FSAS-CGTG (union section of the Louis Fleming hospital center) for a commemorative march.

Displaying union t-shirts and banners, the majority of them started the walk at 7:30 am, while a few stayed in the parking lot to hold the stand for T-shirts and refreshments scheduled for the return. Led by Albert Blake at the microphone retracing the history of social struggles, the procession headed towards the Bellevue border, from which they then turned around, a total distance of 8,2 kilometers on foot .

"I came to support because I was told that it was not political," said one of the participants, a COM employee. This march is not a manifestation, but a commemoration of social struggles. "It is the commemoration of the workers' day in the world" indicates Albert Blake, secretary general of UNI.T978.

“Since last year we have been trying to make this march sustainable. It is about the recognition of the ancestors, the elders and all those who fought and made sure that today we have rights, and improved working conditions. It's a tribute. ” he continues.

Marceline Dessout, secretary general of the FSAS-CGTG (health section), adds: "It's been a while since this march had not taken place so we decided to organize it last year because it is a symbol "

The two co-signers of the appeal had invited all the unions of the French and Dutch parties to participate in this march, but none other than them was at the start. “We would have liked to bring all the unions back on the same shelf. That we are all on the same wavelength even momentarily. But that was not the primary objective, ”said Albert Blake.
