On Tuesday, May 10, the Prefect Vincent Berton and Louis Mussington, president of the COM, went to the premises of the Compagnons Bâtisseurs in Quartier d'Orléans to attend one of the workshops offered by the association.
In place in Saint Martin since 2018, the Compagnons Bâtisseurs strive every day to support the population in an active civic approach, offering a number of workshops focused on DIY, the beautification of the habitat, the renovation of a housing without forgetting the participatory construction sites, the loan of tools and educational troubleshooting. It is within the framework of the workshops of May that the officials were invited to attend the workshop entitled "Maintaining and beautifying your 'Earthenware' accommodation" which took place in building 8 of the residence Les Palmeraies (Semsamar) in Quartier d'Orleans. The Compagnons Bâtisseurs association also organizes workshops in the car park of the J.Beaupère school at Sandy Ground. During this morning of animation in Quartier d'Orléans, the Prefect and the President of the Collectivity were able to observe the organizers of the association at work, with as a directional line the transmission of knowledge, signature specific to the Companions Builders. On the program of this workshop "Maintaining and beautifying your home" with the theme of earthenware, the participants had the opportunity to try their hand at cutting tiles where François, animator of the association, showed them two ways of proceed with a tile cutter, under the watchful eyes of Vincent Berton and Louis Mussington. The budding handymen then handled the grinder, an effective tool for making up for the small damage that is caused with the use of an accessory such as a tile cutter. Finally, François made a cement that served as glue to lay the tiles on the kitchen wall. The official visit of personalities such as the Prefect of the northern islands and the President of the Community underlines the many advantages brought by the presence on the territory of an association such as the Compagnons Bâtisseurs, a real bearer of social ties. As a reminder, all the workshops organized by the Compagnons Bâtisseurs are free and open to everyone.
