TASTE WEEK: Students from the MA Richards school discover how bread and cakes are made at the L'Express bakery

0

As part of the week of taste at school, the pupils of the CM1 class of the Marie-Antoinette Richards school had the privilege of visiting the Express bakery, in Hope Estate.

Vanessa, the assistant to the director of the Express, welcomed them warmly in front of the amazed eyes of the customers who were surprised and happy to meet this young person at the bakery.

After wearing charlottes to comply with hygiene measures in the food industry, the students went to the bread-making workshop. There, they met the charming Zina who explained to them the stages of production, from making the dough to putting it in the oven. They were thus able to watch the process of cutting the bread dough into 10 baguettes in the “divider”.

Then, a meeting with pastry chef Anthony was organized for the taste lesson on the establishment's floor! They had to put on overshoes to avoid falls, we don't mess with company safety! The students were able to learn how to make madeleines. With great pedagogy and empathy, chef Anthony applied himself to showing them first how to put the madeleine dough he had prepared beforehand in the stencil, then to fill the molds. Vanessa didn't hesitate to get her hands dirty, and to tell them that he could touch and taste anything, which they were naturally eager to do with great pleasure. Then came the time to put the madeleines in the oven for 15 minutes during which the students were also able to learn how to make the madeleine maker. They each broke an egg which they added to butter, sugar, flour and vanilla. After having stirred each one in turn, to obtain a very smooth dough, the chef told them that it had to rest for a period of 4 hours before it could be poured into the madeleine moulds.

In the oven, the madeleines are finally ready and the time for tasting is approaching! What a pleasure to taste what we had prepared ourselves; 144 madeleines that were shared together! The parents were not forgotten, the students were able to bring home a few madeleines, because taste is also a moment of sharing with family or friends.

A visit to the Express bakery which was therefore well appreciated by both students and accompanying persons!

The Principal of the Marie-Antoinette Richards school wishes to thank Mrs. Magali Laurent, Principal of the Express establishment for her enthusiasm for the realization of this project, the staff who were charming, Miss Lake Alouska, as well as Mr. Alex Pierre, of the Rotary Club Saint-Martin Sunset.

A very interesting and enriching visit that may have sparked vocations in some students of the Marie-Antoinette Richards school. _AF
