Road Safety: New checks carried out by the Motorized Brigade and the Territorial Police

0

On Friday May 4, from 6 to 8 am, motorcyclists from the Saint-Martin Motorized Brigade and local police carried out coordinated traffic police checks in Marigot.

The main purpose of this morning operation was, in addition to the repression of accident-causing traffic violations such as the failure to wear a seatbelt or helmet, the control of buses and illegal taxis.

This operation therefore specifically targeted two types of violations of public transport legislation:

- Lack of authorization to circulate buses (bus not having the approval of the community and still officiating in French part): fine of 135 euros,

- Lack of authorization to carry out the activity of bus driver (illegal taxis known as "gypsi"): offense.

Besides the fact that these practices generate unfair competition against the drivers of buses and taxis in good standing, it is at their own risk that users get into these vehicles. Indeed, you have no guarantee that the vehicle is in good condition, that the driver actually has his driving license or that he is insured for passenger transport: so in the event of an accident, you will end up without any insurance…

During these checks, 1 lack of traffic authorization, 1 failure to authorize driver activity, 1 driving without a license, 1 not wearing a seatbelt and 1 not wearing a helmet.

These operations will be renewed regularly. ”
