Authorities welcome the significant decline in armed robbery in recent years. 28 VAMAs were recorded by the company in 2018 compared to 64 in 2017: this is 4,9 times less than in 2014, a record year of VAMA commission on the two islands.

Armed robberies against shops have clearly decreased: 35 were committed in 2017 (+ 14 compared to 2016) while nearly 50 were committed between 2013 and 2015. “A lot of work was done thanks to safety advisor to managers of Chinese convenience stores, the main targets for VAMAs. The safety advisor went to meet them to advise them on security and help them better protect themselves, ”explains gendarmerie captain Thierry Verres.

Another significant decrease observed, that of violent robberies committed without a weapon: 43 facts dealt with in 2017 against 153 in 2012, or 114 in 2015.

The number of stabbed thefts is stable: an average of 12 per year.

Trailer thefts, which had exploded in the years 2012-2014, have been falling for three years. In 2012 and 2013, almost 300 had been committed; in 2014 it was a fact once a day. At the time, flyers were published by the state services to raise awareness among the population and tourists. In 2016, 151 thefts were noted and 123 in 2017.
