Antilles-Guyana air transport: the end of the “Norwegian” company!

The low cost airline Norwegian Air Shuttle will no longer serve Guadeloupe and Martinique next winter, whether on routes to the United States, Canada or Guyana.

The Norwegian financial specialist's fragile financial health continues to have effects on the network: after the closure of five bases in Rome, Tenerife, Palma de Mallorca as well as in Newburgh and Providence in the United States announced last month (Gran Canaria and Fort Lauderdale will also be affected), it decided not to resume its service to the Antilles next winter. At Fort-de-France airport, Norwegian offers until the end of March 4 flights a week to Cayenne, 3 to Montreal, 6 to New York-JFK and 4 to Fort Lauderdale; the same destinations are offered from Pointe-à-Pitre, with 4 weekly rotations to Guyana, three to Canada, six to New York and three to Florida.

"Sad to leave the French Caribbean"

“We are sad to see the end of our operations in the French Caribbean,” spokesman Anders Lindström said in a statement released by USA Today; "Although our connections with Guadeloupe and Martinique have gone well, cost reduction measures and the use of aircraft being a top priority, it is not financially viable as a European air carrier to relocate planes and crew to these islands during the winter ”.

He added hoping that other American companies will take over, "since we have significantly increased awareness of these wonderful islands."
