HEALTH: Suicide mortality in Saint-Martin almost twice the national average

0

"The COMs of Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy have some of the highest suicide mortality rates in the national territory" advances Dr. Jessica Lacroix, public health doctor at ARS in the editorial of the public health bulletin last March.

In Saint-Martin, between 2013-2015, 18 deaths by suicide were recorded; men represented nearly 9 out of 2015 suicides observed during this period. By relating the number of suicides identified in 27,2 to the resident population of Saint-Martin and aged over ten years, we obtain 100000 suicides / 50hab, almost XNUMX% higher than the national suicide mortality.

If Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy had the highest suicide mortality rates in France, they had the lowest hospitalization rates for suicide attempts in France after Mayotte and Guadeloupe.
