The repair and reconstruction operations at the Louis-Constant Fleming hospital center will cost 12,1 million euros, the government announced last Monday during the fifth interministerial committee devoted to the reconstruction of Saint Martin. The State will contribute 6,4 million euros, the rest being financed by insurance.
A damage assessment mission had been requested by the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron after the passage of Hurricane Irma, indicates the site TecHopital.com. A chief engineer from the Besançon teaching hospital had come to the site two days in September to draft a report to be submitted to the Ministry of Solidarity and Health. In the words of the latter reported by TecHopital.com, "the damage [highlighted] the original faults" and some of them "may have been the cause of the damage observed". Reconstruction work has already started on the hospital center, which has been able to regain its initial reception capacity.
