Diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, impossible marriage

0

As part of the 2022 heart week of the French Federation of Cardiology which takes place from September 19 to 29 with the theme of cardiovascular risk factors, the Saint Martin Santé association is implementing several actions.

Heart Week highlights the risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death in women over 65 and the second cause of death in men, to promote their prevention. It will end on Thursday, September 29, which marks World Heart Day. This particular week overlaps with another important week for the awareness work that characterizes Saint Martin Santé, namely the national diabetes week, which takes place from September 23 to 30 and whose theme is "diabetes and tobacco". Smoking is a risk factor for type 2 diabetes. For Chantale Thibaut, president of the Saint Martin Santé association, the marriage between these two pathologies, cardiovascular diseases and diabetes, is therefore impossible to avoid, hence the two symbols represented separately during actions, the heart of a side and the blue circle for diabetes. The association has set up prevention operations on the subject of cardiovascular patients through various awareness, information and screening stands, in the form of public actions, open to all, making it possible to educate and awareness of the various factors that can lead to health problems. Last September 24 in the morning, an HTA, diabetes and overweight screening was organized in the garden of Bellevue with Speedy Plus in the company of a doctor and a nurse. Many people have had the opportunity to measure their blood pressure, heart rate, diabetes and, above all, to understand the numbers. Arterial hypertension and diabetes remain major risk factors for cardiovascular events, such as myocardial infarction or stroke (cerebrovascular accident). Four other risk factors should be noted, tobacco, excess cholesterol, stress and sedentary lifestyle. In this regard, an "anti-sedentary lifestyle" stand which highlighted the importance of regular physical activity was held at the Vanterpool stadium on September 26 in the morning and the entire Saint Martin Santé team relocated it to the parking lot. of the Quartier d'Orléans pharmacy in the afternoon, in order to go as far as possible to the population to inform them of the differences between a sedentary lifestyle and physical inactivity while guiding them towards the integration of regular physical activity in their daily. The association offers many sports workshops for the elderly throughout the year, the benefits are notable on the physical health of the participants, so do not hesitate to contact Saint Martin Santé to find out about the program (see info). Today, this Wednesday, September 28, you can meet the association's team from 10 a.m. to noon in its offices at 45 rue Constant Fleming in Concordia for a "nutrition" stand putting the importance of food back in the center thanks to exchanges with a dietician on nutrition and national recommendations via the National Health Nutrition Program (PNNS). The week of the heart will therefore close this Thursday, September 29 with a radio animation from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. to discuss live with listeners around the importance of taking care of your cardiovascular health, prevention in terms of lifestyle or more treatment to delay the progression of pathologies. _VX
