Health: Coronavirus: people who have stayed in China with symptoms in Saint Martin should call 15

As of January 30, six cases of 2019-nCoV (coronavirus) infection have been confirmed on French territory. Five of these cases are treated in Paris, one in Bordeaux. All are from or have recently stayed in Wuhan, a city in eastern China where the virus started.

“A specific welcome for travelers has been set up at Roissy and Saint-Denis de la Réunion airports for flights from China, Hong Kong and Macao. This reception is provided by approved civil defense association personnel, in conjunction with the airport medical service and reinforced by medical and paramedical professionals, ”indicates the Ministry of Health.

And on the island?

In Saint-Martin or Sint Maarten, where a large Chinese community lives and travels regularly to China, no preventive measures are implemented.

"If a person returns from an area where the virus circulates and presents symptoms within 14 days of his return to Saint-Martin, he must call the Samu at 15 but above all not go to see his general practitioner or go to the hospital to avoid any risk of contamination, "explains Valérie Denux, director of the regional health agency of Guadeloupe (ARS). "The Samu will identify if it is a case of coronavirus, if that is the case, he will ask SMUR to go and find the person to isolate him and take care of him," she adds.

In the current state of knowledge, the main symptoms are fever and respiratory signs of cough or breathlessness. In more severe cases, the patient may present with acute respiratory distress, acute renal failure, or even multi-visceral failure that can lead to death.

The ARS has planned a communication in French, Chinese, English and Spanish.
