Based on its motto: "UNDERSTAND, DEFEND AND ENTERPRISE", the Soroptimist International Club of Saint Martin has undertaken for 3 years to award annually to the best student in the scientific disciplines of the 3rd class "the Elcie CLAIRE Prize".

This is a long-term action that was implemented with the Collège Mont des Accords in 2017.

Why the price: Elcie CLAIRE?

Elcie HUNT th. CLAIRE was born on June 16, 1933 in Rambaud, in Saint-Martin.

Woman of heart, visionary, very committed. A multifaceted woman, she puts her time, her kindness, her know-how, her willingness to change the lives of women for the better, at the service of others.

Founding member and President of the Soroptimist International Club of Pointe-à-Pitre, she is the godmother of the SI Club of Saint Martin (created in May 26, 1994). Elcie passed away on April 28, 1998.

The Elcie CLAIRE Prize is very dear to our hearts, because we want the memory of our godmother to be revived by a concrete action aimed at promoting girls, especially in the field of education and more specifically in scientific matters.

The 3rd presentation of this award took place on June 25, 2019, during the party of the MDA College at the CCI of St Martin. The president and the members of the club would like to thank the Principal of the College, Madame KARAM, as well as her educational team for their cooperation and the realization of this beautiful event.

After diligent research, there came out a nominee in the person of Jennique GIBBS, to whom we had the honor of presenting a trophy "Prix Elcie CLAIRE", as well as a check for 500 €.

Undeniably serious student, who never stopped improving during his schooling in college, she got involved in several fields: class delegate, super-delegate, commemoration of the Treaty of Concordia and her Science Po project. We wish him good luck.

The President 2018-2020,

Annette PHILIPS
