First egg laying and emergence of leatherback turtles in Orient Bay

0

The sea turtle nesting season in Saint-Martin started last March and at least 6 first traces of leatherback turtle laying have been reported since.
Last Sunday was the occasion for some lucky ones to observe the fruit of these laying activities: the emergence of young twists.
The recent reopening of our beaches, these privileged places for observing the spawning of 3 protected species of marine turtles (leatherback, green and hawksbill turtles), may lead you to observe this type of event which is still too rare and fragile today.
Thank you for contributing to their preservation by reporting any sightings to us and ensuring the success of this crucial stage in their life by respecting an attitude respectful of the tranquility of these animals sensitive to disturbance (as recalled on the Turtle Network website. Marines of the French Antilles).

The Saint-Martin nature reserve will soon call for volunteers to document this 2020 season, which is already shaping up to be unusual.
