Air pollution: orange level in Saint-Martin

0

The passage of air masses loaded with fine particles over Saint-Martin leads to an increase in the levels of fine PM10 particles in the atmosphere.

Indeed, the Gwad'Air regional air quality observatory forecast for this Tuesday 30 and Wednesday 31 August 2022 the exceeding of the alert threshold of 50 micrograms per cubic meter over 24 hours relating to fine particles PM10 ( particles with a diameter of less than 10 micrometers (µm) that can penetrate the bronchi). This pollution is mainly linked to the passage of sand mists over the Guadeloupe archipelago, the concentration of fine particles depending mainly on weather conditions, but also on human activity (combustion of fossil fuels, means of transport, industrial activities, etc. ). Faced with this forecast, the information and recommendation procedure was triggered in accordance with the prefectural decree relating to the management of episodes of pollution in the ambient air. The orange level is therefore recommended since yesterday until today, August 31, 2022.

The health recommendations for vulnerable people (pregnant women, young children, people over the age of 65 or suffering from cardiovascular pathologies, heart or respiratory failure, as well as people with asthma) and populations sensitive to pollution peaks are as follows:

– Contact a healthcare professional in the event of respiratory or cardiac discomfort

– Favor short outings while minimizing effort

– Limit travel on main roads during peak hours

– Reduce intense physical and sporting activities, both outdoors and indoors

– Consult your doctor in order to adapt your medical treatment if necessary
