Before the start of the long vacation, the gendarmerie wishes to remind the steps to be taken in the event of the loss of an administrative document.

1 / Driving license and registration card:

The declaration of loss of registration certificate or driving license (Saint-Martin or metropolitan) must be made to the Collectivity (Post of the Territorial Police or at the reception).

Loss declaration forms (except Saint Martin license) are available on the service-public.fr website.

2 / Loss of National Identity Card:

A loss of National Identity Card necessarily requires a request for renewal of this administrative document. Thus, there is no need to make a loss declaration since it is included in the renewal document.

This must be done at the Collectivité.

3 / Loss of French Passport:

If the person requests a passport renewal, then, in the same way as the National Identity Card, there is no declaration of loss to make because it is included in the renewal request. It must be made to the Collectivity.

In the event of loss without renewal request, it is at the Gendarmerie that the declaration of loss must be undertaken.

4 / Loss of foreign passport:

Foreigners who have lost their passports must contact their embassy or consulate, whose contact details they can find online. Of course, in all the cases mentioned above, if the administrative document has been stolen, then it is indeed in the gendarmerie that the filing of a complaint for theft must be made. _AF
