Our bathing waters conform to European standards

The Guadeloupe and Northern Islands Health Agency (ARS) has unveiled its results for the 2015 season concerning the quality of bathing water in Guadeloupe, Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy. The ARS - which ensures regular health checks in all bathing areas - took 2100 samples. The results of the tests are satisfactory: 97% of bathing sites comply with European standards. Only 3% are classified as “water of insufficient quality” only in Guadeloupe, including Viard in Petit-Bourg (sea water). Concerning the presence of Sargassum, the ARS is reassuring: “There is no direct deterioration in the quality of the water linked to the presence of Sargassum. The risks associated with Sargassum come mainly from malodorous gases resulting from the decomposition of algae and in particular from hydrogen sulphide (H2S). ”
