Nautisme: Equipment ordered for the future nautical club of Saint-Martin

0

Last December, Metimer, the association of seafaring professionals in Saint-Martin participated in the Paris nautical fair. This is where the idea for creating a multi-sport nautical club in Saint-Martin was born.

To help the nautical sector victim of Irma in the Northern Islands, an auction of large format black and white photographs of the thirty sailors of the last Vendée Globe was organized at the show and raised 7326 euros. Originally, the Saint-Barthélemy sailing club was to benefit from 20% of this sum, but finally decided to bequeath its share to Saint-Martin.

The profits from the sale were not paid in cash but in assets with the company BIC, which made them benefit from preferential rates. Metimer, which doubled the amount of its funds, ordered ten Optimists, five SUP (Stand Up Paddle), five kayaks and life jackets. The equipment will arrive in Saint-Barthélemy shortly with the container of the AG2R regatta.

"This is the foundation stone of something that will surely become much more important," said Bülent Gülay, president of Metimer. The order of equipment indeed marks the beginning of the future nautical club. It will be stored pending the opening scheduled for next season. No place has yet been defined.
