The Carib Swim Team club ended its 2021/22 season in style with no less than 12 medals won last weekend at the Martinique Open.

The competition brought together swimmers from Guadeloupe, Martinique, Saint Lucia and of course Saint-Martin/Sint Maarten.

13 CST swimmers were involved in the different categories.

Several of them participated for the first time in this kind of competition. A competition that was run as a senior meet, meaning all swimmers were pitted against each other.

In terms of results, Saphir Thomas struck a blow by winning a gold medal in the 800m, two silver medals (200m and 400m), and a bronze medal in the 200m backstroke. He is the most successful swimmer in the Carib Swim Team club!

For his part, Matias Piazza also won four medals, including 3 silver in the 400m, 200m and 1500m and 1 bronze in the 100m. For the record, Matias Piazza achieved the best preliminary time of 59'80' ' over 100 m, synonymous with the best performance of the Open.

Joey Schvartz, only 12 years old, won a beautiful silver medal in the 400 IM, and a bronze in the 1500 m.

Arianna Lont also won two medals, a silver in the 400m and a bronze in the 1500m.

Although she was not a medalist, Gigi Cai managed to qualify for the 100m and 100m flyweight finals. A great performance!

The CST has a bright future ahead of it

New "B" times were set by D'Anka Burgan (50m, 100m, and 50 flies), Louise Creusot (400m freestyle, 100m backstroke, and 200m backstroke), Daan Vinke (100m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 400 freestyle and 1500 m) and Luuk Vinke (50 freestyle, 200 m, 100 backstroke and 50 m).

New “BB” times were set by Anka (50m backstroke and 50m), Gigi (200m), Arianna (200m), Kjeld Van Der Meer (400m freestyle and 50m) and Luuk (100m free).

The new “A” times were set by Gigi (400m free) and Kjeld (100m free).

New "AA" times are to be put to the credit of Saphir (400 m free  800m), Joey (50m, as a relay) and Kjeld (50m).

Matias gets a new “AAA” time in the 800m and also an “AAAA” time in the 200m. Joey also swam an “AAAA” time in the 1500m.

If most swimmers are now on vacation, this is not yet the case for Joey who will participate this month in the French Junior Championships in Metropolitan France, nor for Matias leaving for the Canadian Junior Championships. Good luck to them ! _AF
