This year, two brands have signed the price moderation agreement known as the price quality shield (BQP) with the State: Super U and Petit Casino are committed to their two respective stores in Marigot, Hope Estate, Anse Marcel and Orient Bay , for another year to maintain prices on designated essential items.
Each year, State services and distributors select products and set their prices. These products are divided into sub-baskets: food, equipment and maintenance of the house and infants. A price is defined by sub-basket and cannot be modified during the agreement; on the other hand, the price of a product can be. If one product is increased, another will have to be decreased to compensate.
This year, the total of sub-baskets has been set at 100 euros, i.e. 2 euros more than last year or 3 more than in 2020. This includes 55 items at Super U (compared to 56 last year) and 50 at Petit Casino, as much as last year.
The price of the first sub-basket (food products) cannot exceed 53 euros at Super U and 65,40 euros at Petit Casino. That of the second sub-basket 25 euros and 34,60 euros. As for the third sub-basket (available only at Super U), its amount is 22 euros (+2 euros in one year).
The products concerned are included in a list appended to the agreement (download below). In the store, they are identified by a quality price shield badge. The competition, consumer affairs and fraud prevention departments carry out checks on a regular basis.
This quality-price Shield device comes from the Lurel law of 2012 aimed at combating the high cost of living overseas. It was only installed in Saint-Martin in 2020. Before there was a legal obstacle to its implementation.
