MUSIC: The SXM Festival holds the power of creativity

After several pre-launch evenings and before an intense first day of the festival, the organizing team invited the press this Tuesday, March 7 to the Hommage Hôtel de Baie Nettlé to present the 6th edition of this event which welcomes the cream of the crop. of the electronic music scene.

The Arbia siblings, namely Krystel and Julian, to whom we owe the existence of the SXM Festival, were surrounded by several personalities involved in the promotion of the latter: Valérie Damaseau, president of the Tourist Office of Saint-Martin , Arthur Lambriex, Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunications (TEATT) on the Dutch side, May Ling Chun, director of the Tourist Office on the Dutch side and Driss Skali, artistic director of the SXM Festival, present since the first edition. By way of introduction, Krystel Arbia addressed the pre-launch parties of the festival which took place at the beginning of the week, proving the excitement and enthusiasm of the public already present in the territory. Thanks to a partnership with the maritime company Voyager which provides year-round daily crossings between Saint-Martin and Saint Barthélemy, the organization offers special packs including the boat crossing and access to the festival for residents of Saint-Martin. -Barth eager to live the unique experience of the SXM Festival. “We are working closely with the governments of both parties and the economic players in the territory. Our respective marketing teams shared a lot of information in order to have maximum reach in terms of promoting the island and its culture,” Krystel said during the press conference. With a 6th edition “full of surprises” where the average age of the festival-goer is 34 years old, no less than 50 countries will be represented during these 5 days of the festival. In addition to the deep desire to promote the destination in an eco-friendly spirit, Krystel and Julian are committed to highlighting Caribbean products with the aim of increasing the presence of local brands in future editions. For this 2023 vintage, festival-goers will be able to discover Blue Light gin from Grenada, Bellevue eco-positive rum from Marie-Galante or Mutiny Island vodka from St. Croix, US Virgin Islands. All to be consumed in moderation. The producers will thus be able to tell festival-goers their story and their ecological commitment in the various production processes. 35 local DJs are on the 2023 line-up. For Driss Skali, the SXM Festival, a real musical melting-pot, offers this opportunity for local artists to collaborate with the big names of the electro scene, in a diversity that is now in the SXM Festival DNA.
